AH, WILDERNESS!

by Eugene O'Neill

AN OPEN-AIR PRODUCTION AT PORTHOUSE THEATRE

A PROGRAM OF KENT STATE UNIVERSITY, ON THE GROUNDS OF BLOSSOM MUSIC FESTIVAL, SUMMER HOME OF THE CLEVELAND ORCHESTRA.

MY MEMORY: This was one of the loveliest directing experiences I ever had. It was a play that I didn't know well and that I thought didn't have a lot of depth, but I love many of O'Neill's tragedies, so when I was offered the job I thought, "Well, let's see what it's like to work on his only comedy."  Oh, how I underestimated it! It was a play that I came to love deeply, and I realized my poor impression of it had probably been formed by seeing so many mediocre productions. I was given a great design team and a marvelous cast including, totally by chance, two actors that I had gone to grad school with.  What a happy reunion we all had!

Sadly, I have lost all my notices, but fortunately, I have found a few photos of the production.
