THE HEIDI CHRONICLES

by Wendy Wasserstein

MY MEMORY:  When we were planning the season, Josie Abady said she wanted to produce this important play, and she asked me if I'd like to direct it. I put together a wonderful cast, we all worked hard, and we had the best time in rehearsal.  Plus, we had a special visit with Wendy who came to The Play House and was so generous with her time to all of us.

HILARIOUS 'HEIDI' CHRONICLES THE WOMEN'S MOVEMENT.

Cleveland Play House's production of Wasserstein's chronicaling of the women's movement is handsome and frequently hilarious, better appreciated for its wit and style and mordant observations.

Director Roger Danforth has given the play a smart straight-forward interpretation by focusing on the relationship of the four main characters and avoids placing the emphasis on some of the grosser stereotypes. Nancy Youngblut radiates intelligence and is a deft comedian.  Peter (Evan Pappas) is a marvelous creation, wickedly funny in tweaking Heidi for her feminist excesses.

Production values, as always at the Play House, are exceptional. -- Cleveland Plain Dealer
